Margaret Mahy Day - presentation of Tom Fitzgibbon Award & Joy Cowley Award

The Margaret Mahy Medal Award Lecture, Storylines AGM, presentation of the Tom Fitzgibbon Award and the Joy Cowley award were all on the agenda for the event I attended on Saturday at Kings School, Remuera, Auckland.

Among the attendees, I spotted Fleur Beale, Tessa Duder, Pippa Werry, Melinda Syzmanik and several other prominent Kiwi authors.Very exciting for us newbies! And of course the incredibly talented illustrator David Elliot, who presented the award lecture.

I was surprised to realise that there were also certificates presented to those of us shortlisted for the awards, so I was able to go up the front of the stage and feel important.

Fantastic setting, great morning tea, wonderful opportunity to network with other writers and congratulate the winners. So glad I made the effort to go up to Auckland and attend.
